ROCK ISLAND – Today, Port Byron, Illinois Mayor Bruce Peterson endorsed Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) for re-election. Mayor Peterson cited Cheri’s exceptional constituent services and dedicated commitment to Northwest and Central Illinois. Peterson is a Vietnam Veteran who served on Moline’s City Council alongside then-City Councilwoman Bustos, before serving as Mayor of the Village of Port Byron, a village of about 1,700 people.
“It is my pleasure to endorse Cheri Bustos in the election here in November 2020,” said Mayor Peterson. “I’ve worked with Cheri starting back in the 1990s, when we were both on City Council—she in East Moline, I in Moline. I’ve always admired Cheri and her dedication, not just to serve her city but the entire area.”
“Over these past 17 years, there were numerous times where the Village of Port Byron needed guidance and support from our State and Federal representatives,” Mayor Peterson added. “I have always been pleased with the attention and support we have received from Representative Bustos and her office.”
“Over the decades that I have worked with Mayor Peterson, I have always respected and deeply appreciated his work to better our community, so I am especially thankful for his endorsement,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “I will continue to work alongside local leaders like Mayor Peterson on behalf of hardworking families to ensure Illinois is a great place to work, live and raise a family.”
Now in her fourth term representing Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos is a leader in the fight to lower health care costs, rebuild our region’s infrastructure, help Illinoisans weather the COVID-19 pandemic and work to safely reopen, and deliver real results for hardworking families across Northwest and Central Illinois.
