Community members raise issues of health care, broadband and the economic impact of COVID-19
MOLINE – Yesterday, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) completed her Circle Up tour of all 14 counties across Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. Over five days, Congresswoman Bustos traveled over 900 miles and held 14 meetings with community members. The meetings followed public health guidelines with socially-distanced seating, masks and temperature checks upon arrival.
“I always say we’re given two ears and one mouth for a reason, and we should use them proportionally,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “I traveled to all 14 counties as part of my Circle Up tour to hear directly from the hardworking men and women I serve. I’m committed to continuing to deliver real results for Illinois families like lowering health care costs, expanding broadband access, strengthening our local economy and supporting our families as we weather the impact of COVID-19.”
Common concerns raised on the tour included farmers being forced to file bankruptcy, limited investment in broadband, budget shortfalls in small towns and rural counties, COVID-19’s impact on Illinois families and small businesses and recent changes to the United States Postal Service.
In response to COVID-19, Congresswoman Bustos has sounded the alarm on the impact on Illinois’ farmers and helped pass the most significant series of relief packages in American history. She has fought for increased aid to our towns and cities and helped pass the Heroes Act, which would include support for cash-strapped municipalities and states, increased support for families, extended unemployment aid, and a second round of stimulus checks. The legislation has stalled in the Senate.
Congresswoman Bustos recently helped pass an infrastructure package that included over one billion in funding for rural broadband and traveled to Washington just last month to pass the Delivering for America Act, which would reverse changes in the postal service.
Now in her fourth term representing Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, Cheri Bustos is a leader in the fight to lower health care costs, rebuild our region’s infrastructure and get real results for hardworking families across Northwest and Central Illinois.
