WATCH: Bustos: “The policies of this Administration are creating so much pain for America’s producers that our family farmers – the backbone of our rural communities – are asking themselves if this is a lifestyle they want to pass on to their children.”

MOLINE – In case you missed it: last week, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos joined Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez for a virtual discussion on President Trump’s failed trade war along with Minnesota Farmer’s Union President Gary Wertish and Former Chief Agricultural Negotiator for the Office of the United States Trade Representative Darci Vetter.

Congresswoman Bustos outlined this Administration’s reckless policy decisions in three main points: fighting for what we had and what we’re losing, the opportunity costs of inaction, and forcing producers to rely on government aid.

You can watch the full discussion HERE.“We have watched the Trump Administration shoot from the hip with no clear plan of action, no clear plan of thought, to what the long-term consequences are and this starts with the trade wars President Trump has started not just with our adversaries but with our allies,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “We need an Administration that will prioritize growing and expanding international and domestic markets for our producers. Ultimately, our producers want access to markets, not government checks.”“Farmers are taking it on the chin, consumers are taking it on the chin and this is all about Donald Trump’s failures,” Chairman Perez said. “He lost the trade war that he started and he continues to betray the American farmers and American workers who put their trust in him. Thank you for your leadership on so many issues Congresswoman Bustos and for being a really strong voice for rural America.”
