Congress' approval rating may not be something to be admired, but that still isn't stopping some lawmakers from meeting their communities and offering a helping hand
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos spent time Friday at Lifescape Community Services to help pack boxes for Meals on Wheels.
The organization provides food for Rockford area residents who are struggling to make ends meet.
Today's outreach is a part of the representative's "Cheri on Shift" effort where she shadows workers at their job site.
"We have to keep fighting and make sure that people get the help that they need, make sure that people have the opportunity to advance in their lives and that's what I like to keep in mind when I go back to Washington, Bustos said.
Bustos also meets with people on "Supermarket Saturdays" at local grocery stores to hear about the issues that matter most to them.
