Washington, D.C. - Tonight after the delegate math made it official that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has secured the Democratic Nomination for President, long-time Hillary supporter and Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos congratulated her. Bustos, who serves as the Co-Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue program and Vice-Chair of Recruiting, highlighted the importance of electing women at all levels of government in her statement.

“To me, the American Dream has always meant that you can achieve great things if you’re willing to work hard and fight for it, no matter where you grew up, what color your skin is or even if you happen to be a woman. Tonight, in truly historic fashion, Hillary Clinton proved that the American Dream is alive and well. Women have come a long way in my lifetime, but we still have a lot of work to do to secure equal pay for women, establish earned family leave and build a more just society for all Americans. These are just a few of the reasons why I’ve been such a passionate supporter of Hillary Clinton and why I’ve worked so hard to recruit more women to run for office. This November, I'll be honored to share the Democratic ballot with women like Hillary Clinton, Tammy Duckworth and Susana Mendoza as we work to build a better future for families across Illinois.”
