Today, Cheri Bustos released the following statement after she was endorsed for re-election by the Illinois AFL-CIO for her strong record of fighting for jobs and working families.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO and humbled to be supported by so many working families across our region,” said Cheri Bustos. “I am running to continue my fight to bring middle class values back to Washington. We need representatives with the right priorities and that means putting job-creation and the American worker first while protecting Medicare and Social Security."
Bustos is a strong supporter of working families and the middle class. Since taking office, she has worked tirelessly to strengthen American manufacturing and create good-paying jobs that can't be outsourced. She opposes tax breaks for companies that ship American jobs overseas and supports a living wage for working families. She's also fought hard to protect Social Security and Medicare from dangerous cuts that would hurt Illinoisans.
Former Congressman Schilling has a lifetime score of only 29% from the AFL-CIO and supports policies that would hurt working families while rewarding corporations that ship jobs overseas and Wall Street billionaires. He opposes putting more money into the pockets of working families by raising the minimum wage and championed the Republican budget proposal that would end the Medicare guarantee and could raise out-of-pocket health costs for seniors by more than $6,000 a year.
