Bustos Endorsed by National Non-Partisan Veterans Organization & Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth

Cheri's Strong Advocacy for Veterans & Military Families Cited

Moline, Ill- Today, Cheri Bustos received the endorsement of Veterans and Military Families for Progress (VMFP), a national non-partisan Veterans organization as well as Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08), a double amputee Iraq War Veteran who lost both of her legs after her helicopter came under enemy fire. Duckworth cited Cheri's strong advocacy for Veterans and military families as the reason for her endorsement. The two Congresswomen were also joined by local Veterans who also support Cheri.

"Our nation's Veterans and military families have a loyal and strong advocate in my friend and colleague Cheri Bustos," said Tammy Duckworth. "During her short time in office, Cheri has helped lead efforts to put Veterans back to work, to protect the benefits they have earned and deserve and to ensure Veterans get the best care available when they return home from the battlefield. I'm proud to join these other Illinois Veterans today in giving her a strong endorsement for re-election."

“Congresswoman  Bustos is a strong supporter of our nation’s Veterans and active armed forces. As a community leader and as an elected Representative she has forcefully advocated and supported legislation that would benefit Veterans and their families,” said Ronald D. Scott, President of Veterans and Military Families for Progress. “Cheri Bustos’ strong commitment to the issues that are critical to Veterans, those serving now, and their families is unsurpassed. We feel that Veterans, active duty, military families, and in fact, all people of Illinois’ 17th Congressional District will be well-served by having Congresswoman Cheri Bustos continue to be their elected representative.”

“I’m honored to stand here today with brave Veterans across the region and my friend and colleague Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth to receive the endorsement of Veterans and Military Families for Progress,” said Cheri Bustos. “I remain committed to standing up for our Veterans who have served our nation with honor. We owe them nothing less than the best when they return home from the battlefield. I thank Congresswoman Duckworth and Veterans and Military Families for Progress for their support and look forward to continuing to partner with them to ensure our veterans and their families receive the support they have earned and deserve.”

Veterans and Military Families for Progress is a 21st Century Veterans organization whose membership consists of Veterans, military families and active duty military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserves, with regional, state and local chapters across the country. In addition, VMFP is unique among such Veterans’ organizations in that family members participate at all levels of our organization, with full voting rights.

Veterans and Military Families for Progress was formed in February of 2005 at a meeting of Veterans and military family members from across the country who were concerned about an overextended military due to numerous deployments, and the erosion of benefits for Veterans, military personnel (including Guard and Reserve) and military families. They promote public policy that specifically addresses such “coming home” issues as physical and mental health care, education, employment, housing, and homelessness. They believe these patriotic and courageous men, women and families, who have together defended our nation and our liberties at home and abroad, have earned appropriate and adequate support.
