MOLINE, IL - Today, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, running for reelection in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, announced the endorsement of Barack Obama.
Obama called Cheri Bustos “a fighter for the middle class,” and cited her work to “keep our country safe, protect Social Security and Medicare, and make college more affordable” for working families.
“I’m proud to endorse Cheri Bustos for the United States House of Representatives,” said Obama. “In Congress, Cheri has had my back as we’ve worked to make the country stronger, safer, and fairer for Illinois families - and now I have her back. Cheri Bustos is a fighter for the middle class, and knows we need to build on the economic progress that workers and businesses have made in recent years. Cheri has stood with me as we’ve worked to keep our country safe, protect Social Security and Medicare, and make college more affordable. I’ve counted on Cheri Bustos, and Illinoisans can, too.”
“Throughout the last eight years, Barack Obama has always been a fighter for middle class families, and I am honored to accept his endorsement,” said Cheri Bustos. “As your Congresswoman, I’ll continue working to protect Social Security and Medicare, invest in our schools and grow our manufacturing economy so we can create more good-paying jobs for Illinois’ hardworking families.”
Congresswoman Bustos has also been endorsed by Joe Biden. She has also earned the endorsement of several organizations such as the AFL-CIO, the Alliance for Retired Americans, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the Sierra Club and the Illinois Farm Bureau. Last Tuesday, she received the first newspaper endorsement in the 17th Congressional District from the Peoria Journal Star.
